A Harry Potter Weekend: The First Three Films

The first three Harry Potter films run 7 hours and 35 minutes in total: spread them over a weekend, and save the third for viewers who are ready for a darker tone.

By the Bingeable team 1 min read

The first three films are the easiest way into Hogwarts: bright, inventive and, for the most part, kind. They also get steadily darker, which is useful to know before you plan the weekend.

All three together take 7 hours and 35 minutes. That is a lot for one day, so we suggest two sittings: the first two on Saturday, the third on Sunday afternoon.

Watching with different ages

The Sorcerer's Stone is a good test. If a child enjoyed it without being frightened, the second is likely to be fine, though its giant spiders are a challenge for anyone who dislikes them. The third film feels different: it looks darker, and the Dementors are properly frightening, which is why it carries a higher age label here.

Always watch in release order. The series builds on itself, and later films assume you remember the earlier ones. The series gets steadily darker after the third film, so check each film's page for what is inside before you continue.
