Three films, one DeLorean and a trilogy that is better planned than most television series. It is also an easy marathon: a bit under six hours, and the films hand off to each other so neatly that the second and third are best watched without a long gap.
Start after lunch at 1:00, take two 15-minute breaks, and you are finished just after 7:00 pm, in time for a late dinner.
A tip for the middle film
Part II is the one that sends people reaching for a diagram, because the story visits 2015, an altered 1985 and then 1955 again. Before you start it, agree on one rule: the person who understands it best explains it, briefly, in the break.
Then go straight into Part III. The second film ends on a cliffhanger, and the third is the warm, funny payoff.
